Acarological and arachnological notes Naturalis
Hammen, L. van der.
A study is made of four subjects in the fields of chelicerate morphology, postembryonic development and relationships, viz., the functional morphology of the legs in Anystis (a fastrunning Actinotrichid mite), the musculature of the gnathosoma of Glyptholaspis confusa (Foà) (an Anactinotrichid mite), the evolution of the chelicerate life-cycle in the case of an irregular number of instars, and the relationships of the chelicerate classes and subclasses.

Hydroids from the John Murray Expedtion to the Indian Ocean, with revisory notes on Hydrodendron, Abietinella, Cryptolaria and Zygophylax (Cnidaria: Hydrozoa) Naturalis
Rees, W.J.; Vervoort, W..
Fourty-four species and one variety of hydroids were identified in the John Murray hydroid collection, obtained from the Gulf of Aden, the Arabian Sea and the northern part of the Indian Ocean, largely from deep water localities. Of these 44 species 2 could be identified only to genus, 1 species is doubtfully mentioned and 5 are new to science. The 44 species we assigned to 2 families of athecate and 6 families of thecate hydroids. In many instances the species have been compared with the type material which, where necessary, was redescribed. A number of additional species, not represented in the John Murray collection has also been redescribed and/or figured. Practically all the John Murray hydroids are figured. Deposition of spirit-preserved type and...

Pandora’s Box: Does Electronic Commerce Increase the Optimal Amount of Fraud? AgEcon
Welling, Michael; Krebs, Alexander; Graefe, Gernot.
Close business relationships are important in the food industry. However, the introduction of electronic commerce has emerged as a fundamental challenge to these relationships. In particular, retailers who start procuring private label food products in electronic auctions risk the termination of the relationships with their suppliers thus losing the value derived from these relationships. Instead, they move their focal interest towards single, unrelated transactions. The authors argue that this development increases the optimal amount of fraud in electronic commerce. In this context, they analyze the occurrence of opportunism.

Relationships with market intermediaries: the case of vegetable cluster marketing in Southern Philippines AgEcon
Axalan, Jerick T.; Murray-Prior, Roy B.; Concepcion, Sylvia B.; Lamban, Ruby Jane G.; Real, Rodel R.; Montiflor, Marilou O.; Batt, Peter J.; Rola-Rubzen, Maria Fay; Bacus, Recarte H.; Israel, Floro T.; Apara, Dante A..
Effective relationship among partners is a key in strengthening collaborative marketing efforts. One of the collaborative marketing efforts is through clustering of farmer to link into market. This study examined the level of relationship of vegetable cluster farmers with their market intermediaries - cluster and the downstream buyers. A total of 81 vegetables farmers in Southern Philippines were surveyed to determine their relationship level on trust, power-dependence, relationship-specific investments and satisfaction. Comparison between clusters and downstream buyers were made using ANOVA and Welch Test. The study found that farmers have high level of trust to their clusters compared to their downstream buyers. The high level of trust is attributed to...

Sequential path analysis: what does "sequential" mean? Scientia Agricola
Kozak,Marcin; Azevedo,Ricardo Antunes.
Studying relationships among plant and crop traits is crucial for crop scientists to understand complex biological systems that occur in plants and the field. Such knowledge constitutes the basis for more practical information on how to manage breeding and production to provide better or more suitable cultivars, higher yields, lower yield gaps, and resistance to pests etc. To acquire such knowledge, however, representative models of associations between plant and crop traits must be constructed. In path analysis - one of the major methods for analyzing multivariate relationships between quantitative traits - it is important to decide on an appropriate model for these associations, a model that is representative of the corresponding biological phenomena...

Social Networks and Supplychain Management in Rural Areas: A Case Study Focusing on Organic Olive Oil AgEcon
Medicamento, Umberto; De Gennaro, Bernardo.
In recent years, due to the growing supply of organic production, the economic performances and the competitive advantages of the farms, have become more dependent on network organisations in the supply chains. This evolution equires methodological approaches able to capture all the variables involved in the generating value processes. The network dimension of the supply chain has become a key element, and enables us to understand better the competitive performances of firms. The relationships of firms, among intangible assets, are recently considered one of the main sources of profit. So the relational capital forms the essence of the value of the firm and it is advantages on the whole coming out by occupying a specific position (role) in the network of...

The Legal Environment Facing Economic Agents in Production AgEcon
Hipp, Janie S.; Francis, Harriet F..
Agriculture has seen a steady movement toward the increased use of contracts. Agricultural contracts now guide the interrelationships of parties throughout the modern production system, extending well beyond the livestock sector. With this predominance come new issues that require us to reexamine contract theory and the roles of the parties. This review examines legislation, regulations, and recent court rulings in seemingly unrelated areas that have specific relationships to the development of contracts in production agriculture: environmental law and labor law.
